E-mail notifications for private messages that do not exist (1 Viewer)

Hello

On Monday, 2 June at 11:51 CET, I received an email notification from [email protected] informing me that fleet had replied to a private message, but when I went to the website to check, there was nothing new (the last message was from fleet, but dated 14 May, 20 days earlier).

On the same day, at 13:15 p.m. CET, I received the same message, with no new reply to the PM.

Today, at 15:22 and 16:58 CET, I received the same type of messages, this time concerning sby, and again, no reply in my PM.
I checked the link on the ‘View this conversation’ button, and it looks like this: https://www.undertow.club/conversations/messagename.12345/#convMessage-67890.
But the reply containing this number (67890) comes from sclover13 (on 27 May), who was also participating in this PM, not from sby.

I'll alert Samoth . I'm not experiencing this, but that's because I have notifications turned off. Problem might be due to our out of date version of the board software.

I think these aren't "new" notifications but some sort of significant delay on old ones. I haven't the foggiest how to look into it, though. Unfortunate, if I'm being honest. Maybe they're like... going into a queue of some sort that's "rate limited" by our provider, and this is just them finally getting sent out?

Quick test of an outbound email shows it being received more or less immediately, so it's not that. No idea what's going on, sadly.

If the function is screwing up, maybe we should disable it.

If it was this, why did the ID number of the message is for the latest message, not one of sby?

It is only a small bug, disabling all notifications for PMs is maybe a bit overkill (especially since I'm the only one reporting it).

In fact, the link of the button doesn't have the ID of a message, it is rather www.undeftow.club/conversations/xlstaticbgload.72934/unread

I don't have emails older than 28 May, so I cannot tell if I received a notification for every new answer.

In any case, I've sent a message to the primary tech guy for the site so we'll see if it's something he's able to look into; because it relates to emails it's possible it's not something he might have direct access to.

For now I suggest to keep an eye on it, and see if any other people are affected. Also - are emails properly sent out for new PMs for other people? Basically we need to figure out the scope of the problem.

It's possible that there are just some old messages in the queue, that were not sent while our email was disabled\not working. They might be in the kind of 'lazy' queue and it's just getting to sending those now.

Didn't realize the server had one of those, but it'd make sense. I will note that overnight I received 2 of these "lazy queue" emails regarding an ongoing exchange Syntax and I had recently they came through at 2:49am and 5:22am GMT-4, but unfortunately my email isn't giving me the same info Syntax's was. Having said that, it looks like these would be his first 2 responses after he added me to the conversation (as I got a separate email about that yesterday at 6:21pm). If I'm right, over the next few days I'll probably be getting a LOT of emails about this, considering how much of a back-and-forth we had, lol.

To document more fully: on May 16th, there were 2 messages in the conversation from Syntax after I was added. On May 17th, there are 7 messages that I could potentially receive emails about, so I'm guessing those will drip feed in soonish.

Is it possible to 'clear the cache' of this queue?

Cos in this PM, Samoth sent 30 messages, fleet 2 and I sent 37...

Tbh, we need AN to double check the daily outgoing mail limits we have on our email service. If its just a few thousand we might not be able to afford to sustain this function without upgrading the plan or finding ways of grouping these somehow. I'll try to see ifnI can clear the queue, but last I checked that involves manual database editing, the whole queue table has to be cleared. But I am extremely busy lately, sadly :(

That could well be the cause of the problem.
If that is the case, I don't think it's worth spending any more time or money on it, as it's not a major inconvenience.

I am now getting late notifications for normal threads, i.e. Missing preview images in the Resource Manager, with the latest replies dating back 23 and 22 days.

It seems to be over.
Last week, I only received one notification regarding the private message between fleet, Samoth and myself on the 20th, and nothing else since the 15th (my trash folder doesn't keep emails longer than that).

We'll have to see. Might be best to avoid DMs for the moment in case it's some sort of backlogged queue. Maybe we come back to it in like a month and send a new message to see how much delay there is?
